About Michelle Bowe

I was born in Trinidad and Tobago in the late 60's and moved to Barbados with my mum 18 years later. Nigel and I have been married for 21 years and we have 2 beautiful children, Savannah and Alex. They really are a joy and make us so proud constantly.

I have always been creative. I studied Cosmetology and practiced hairdressing for 12 years. I made 3D fondant celebration cakes for a few years when my kids were little. But my art journey started in 2016 when I went to a Paint & Groove evening with some friends. I had such a great time meeting artist Yasmin Vizcarrondo and a whole new world began for me. Creative Michelle was reborn!

My style tends to be in bold, bright colors inspired by my beautiful island, the sea and flora. Beauty is all around, everywhere.

Since then I've been brave enough to post photos of my artwork on social media and the support from my family, friends and strangers online has been extremely encouraging. I am so humbled to see photos of my work in rooms all over the world. I pinch myself and think, 'Wow! My hand created that!' It really blows my mind!

I've taken part in a few exhibitions with fellow artists, carried out a solo exhibition and I have entered local Art competitions a few times, all learning my way around the art world and there is still so much to learn.

I spent 2019 creating a brand of merchandise with my artwork. The most popular being the very recognizable Barbados Bus Stop Sign, liked by the Barbados Prime Minister Honorable Mia Amor Mottley. In August 2019, I travelled to Toronto with fellow artists and showcased my work at the Barbados on The Water Festival, a 3 day festival at the Harbourfront. It was such an honor to represent my country at such a fun festival with thousands of people in attendance.

2021 Update
I now work with a fabulous seamstress and a team of professional printers in Barbados and together we create made in Barbados products which you can also see on my "SHOP BAJAN" WEBSITE in linktree.

Join me in my art journey as I explore the world through intense, bright colour.
Love,
Michelle
